I have been working with Greater Anglia recently to try to improve the train service as I know that the impact on my constituents trying to get to work has been significant.
It is the case that far fewer people have been travelling (around 50% of normal passenger numbers and around 30% of normal peak passenger numbers) and the company has been struggling with large numbers of employees off due to the virus. With large numbers of staff absent, it is clearly important that the company offers a reliable service which they can deliver.
The company assured me that the changes were temporary, and they would adjust services accordingly. They have now told me that from Monday 7th February they will be increasing their weekday services on the main commuter routes into London from Ipswich, Colchester, Chelmsford, Southend Victoria, Cambridge, Bishop’s Stortford and Hertford East.
