John Whittingdale met James Cooper, the Personal Development Lead at the Plume Academy in Maldon who was attending a reception at Westminster for the UK Teacher Ambassador Programme. James successfully applied to attend the 3 day programme during which attendees meet the Speaker and Lords Speaker, and attend briefings to gain a greater understanding of how Parliament works. Following the programme, the teachers will go back to develop their students’ and colleagues’ knowledge of UK Parliament and democracy.
John said:
“I was delighted to learn that James has become a UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador and to welcome him to Westminster. I have always been very keen to ensure that our young people understand the importance of democracy and how Parliament works. I am always happy to visit schools in my constituency to talk about this and I look forward to working with James at the Plume”.
