Sir John Whittingdale MP has been appointed Minister for Data and Digital Infrastructure by the Prime Minister, a role similar to the one in held in 2020-2021.
This role will see John return to Government as a Minister in both the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology, while the current Minister, Julia Lopez, is on maternity leave.
John Said:
“I am delighted to be returning to Government, as the Minister for Data and Digital Infrastructure.
It is an interesting time to be returning to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), during what is a very busy time. There are a number of important bills currently going through Parliament including the Online Safety Bill and the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill, of which I played a small part in the preparation of when I was in this role between 2020-2021.
The role has changed since I was last in post, now covering both DCMS and the new Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. I look forward to working with both teams whilst overseeing the progress of these ground-breaking bills, and I pass on my best wishes to Julia Lopez, whose seat I will be keeping warm whilst she is on maternity leave”
