Sir John Whittingdale met Chief Superintendent Stuart Weaver, North Essex Division Commander for Essex Police to discuss local policing issues.
Following the recruitment of another 900 officers, Essex Police now has 3,750 officers, the largest it has been in its 182 year history. This has enabled the Community Police teams covering Maldon, Southminster and South Woodham Ferrers to be brought up to full strength.
Sir John said:
“It is welcome news that crime rates are down across the constituency, with significant falls in both serious violence as well as burglaries and antisocial behaviour. It is also encouraging to see a reduction in domestic abuse which is one of the largest categories of crime.
We are fortunate that our part of the County remains one of the safest places to live although there are of course still policing challenges, particularly in more remote rural areas like the Dengie Peninsula.
I would like to thank Essex Police for the magnificent job they do in keeping us safe and will continue to give them every support.“
