According to recent independent data analysis, Sir John Whittingdale has been ranked the top backbench contributor in the House of Commons during 2023.
The independent data mobile app ScrutinyCounts has reported that out of the 14 million words spoken in the House of Commons during the whole of 2023, Sir John has contributed the most out of all MPs from both sides of the House.
It has been calculated that Sir John has spoken over 140,000 words across 76 parliamentary sessions throughout last year. He recently made substantial contributions in December alone during debates on UK Data Infrastructure, Broadband in Rural communities, Copper Wire Telecoms, SLAPPS Taskforce Work Pla›n and the various sittings of the new Media Bill recently brought to the House.
ScrutinyCounts is a mobile app that gives politically independent analysis and aims to improve political access for the general public, without spin or bias as it acknowledges both sides of the debate.
Their analysis allows Sir John’s constituents to see his activity in the chamber and for him to see which areas he has been most active on in the chamber throughout the year.
