Thank you to the people of Maldon for re-electing me as their MP.
This has been, without doubt, the most difficult election campaign of my career. Despite what has obviously been a very tough night for the Conservative Party, I am hugely grateful that the people of Maldon have continued to place their trust in me at the ballot box.
It is a tremendous privilege to serve as your Member of Parliament and there are some very big issues presently facing our area, not least the future of Maldon’s Health Services and the closure of St Peter’s Hospital, issues which I will continue to campaign vigorously on in Westminster.
I would like to thank the returning officer, my fellow candidates, my election agent, all the counting staff at last night’s count and of course all my supporters and volunteers without whom this campaign would not have been possible.
