Sir John Whittingdale, MP for Maldon, is please to inform his constituents that a draft report has been produced in relation to NHS Mid and South Essex’s proposals to close St Peter’s Hospital and to relocate maternity and inpatient facilities to Braintree and Brentwood respectively.
The report was been conducted by Stand, an independent organisation that specialise in relations between people and communities and health service transformation.
The report is a comprehensive summary of the public consultation activities, such as the survey Sir John authored himself and sent out to some 25,000 of my constituents and the independent analysis of the feedback received from residents to the ICB’s own survey as well.
The report goes into extensive detail on the response to the consultation, presenting statistics from various demographics among the Essex population whether it be racial, gender, age, or sexuality. It conveys the percentage responses according to particular areas of Mid and South Essex, importantly also detailing the opinions of clinicians and health care staff. Additionally, the report includes the myriad different reasons for the public objection to these proposals, from logistical concerns regarding transport and accessibility to distrust in the NHS and local government. Furthermore, the various methods of public engagement are listed including the public meeting organised by Sir John at the Plume Academy in Essex.
Many of Sir John’s constituents will know that he has campaigned steadfastly to oppose any such relocation before and throughout the recent General Election campaign and will continue to do so over the course of the new Parliament. His position is clear, that health services must be retained locally in the town.
Sir John encourages those of his constituents that have followed his campaign against the closure to follow this link to NHS Mid and South Essex website to read the report in full.
