How John can help you
Sir John and his team of caseworkers are always happy to assist his constituents. Support that we can provide includes contacting local authorities, government departments and relevant groups on your behalf to raise issues.
There are some areas that John is unable to assist with in his role as a Member of Parliament.
A Member of Parliament is unable to assist with legal matters, court decisions, private disputes, and is unable to offer financial or legal advice.
An MP also plays a very limited role in the local planning process, with local planning matters falling under the responsibility of the local planning authority, which in most cases is Maldon District Council.
More widely, a Member of Parliament does not have any jurisdiction over local council decisions, however John is able to assist with raising local issues with the Council and will encourage them to engage with constituents.
Please Note:
- When contacting John, please always include your full address in your correspondence.
- When writing on behalf of someone else, John’s office will require their written consent to comply with GDPR regulations.
- When writing to request assistance with a specific case or application, please include any relevant reference numbers.
Who else can help?
Oftentimes local Councillors are better placed to assist with specific local issues such as school places, waste collection, etc. You can check who your local councillor is here.
Citizens Advice Bureau is a very helpful resource, as they are able to offer free and impartial advice on a wide variety of issues including Benefits, Housing, Debt Advice, Employment, etc. The local Maldon and District Branch can be contacted on 01621875774 , or you can make an appointment on their website.
Advice Surgeries
John is continuing to hold advice surgeries and encourages constituents to come along should they wish to raise an issue with him.

Due to Parliamentary protocol, Members of Parliament are only able to help with issues raised by their own constituents. You can check if Sir John is your Member of Parliament by using the Find Your MP page on the UK Parliament website.
