John Whittingdale visited the Bradwell site to see progress in decommissioning the old power station. John was accompanied by Vicky Ford MEP and met Scott Raish, Site Director. (pictured).
The site is following an accelerated decommissioning programme and is now in the Care and Maintenance phase. John went on the roof of one of the old reactors now being clad in aluminium and also saw the Fuel Element Debris treatment plant and the Intermediate Level waste store. John said “remarkable progress has been made since I last visited Bradwell in March with both reactors now almost fully clad. Bradwell is the first commercial reactor to be decommissioned in the UK and the techniques being developed here will be used across the industry. I congratulate all involved on the fantastic job that they are doing”
Following their visit, John and Vicky went with EDF to see the possible site of the new Bradwell B nuclear power station which may be built next to the old power station by the China General Nuclear Corporation.
