A number of constituents have contacted me with concerns about the impact of arthritis. I fully recognise how debilitating this condition can be, affecting not only physical health but also taking a heavy toll on mental wellbeing.
I understand the significance of improving early diagnosis, treatment, and care for arthritis, as outlined in the comprehensive 2021 national report from the Getting it Right First Time rheumatology programme. The recommendations made, alongside the guidance from NICE, are essential in ensuring timely and equitable access to diagnostic tests and care. Additionally, I commend the collaborative work being undertaken by NHS England and Versus Arthritis on the Joint Replacement Support Package, which includes vital mental health support for those waiting for treatment.
I am aware of the profound impact arthritis has on the lives of over 10 million people across the UK, including up to 15,000 constituents here in Maldon. The challenges faced by those living with this condition are significant and deserve to be taken seriously.
