Sir John Whittingdale, MP for Maldon, was very disappointed to learn of the decision by Santander UK to close the branch in Maldon. In light of this, he can fully understand the concern of his constituents that this will mean that Maldon no longer has any bank or building society branches.
However, Sir John does welcome the assessment carried out by LINK of cash access in Maldon which was done as a result of the closure decision. This identifies that there ware two Post Offices in Maldon and one in Heybridge which are able to provide some banking services ass well as ATMs at the Maldon Newsagents, Morrisons and Tesco. He very much welcomes the conclusion that there needs to be a banking hub in the town with an ATM providing cash deposit and withdrawal services:

Sir John pleased that Santander have confirmed that the branch will not close until this is in place.
He will also be meeting shortly with the Regional Manager for Cash Access UK who will now be responsible for establishing the Banking Hub to discuss the services needed and how best to provide these.
