John Whittingdale MP was presented in Parliament with a piece of artwork of the Hythe Quay in Maldon as a celebration of the local area. The piece, by Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year finalist Brian Ramsey, was donated by Sky to mark the launch of Sky Arts as a free-to-air channel.
John said: “It was a pleasure to meet Brian and I am delighted that the Hythe Quay was chosen as one of just 40 sites across the UK to mark the launch. The project celebrates the diversity of landscapes and buildings across the country and the power of art to offer new perspectives.
There has never been a more critical time to support the UK’s vibrant arts sector. I am hopeful that in launching Sky Arts as available to everyone, Sky can inspire greater participation in the arts from new and diverse audiences and I encourage everyone to take advantage of this cultural programming which is now available to watch free of charge.”
